活性氧化铝球为白色球状多孔性颗粒，粒度均匀，表面光滑，机械强度大，吸湿性强，吸水后不胀不裂保持原状，无毒、无臭、不溶于水、乙醇，对氟有很强的吸附性，是一种多孔性、高分散度的固体材料，有很大的表面积，主要用于高氟地区饮用水的除氟。活性氧化铝对气体、水蒸气和某些液体的水分有选择吸附本领。吸附饱和后可在约175-315℃加热除去水而复活，吸附和复活可进行多次，除用作干燥剂外，还可从污染的氧、氢、 、 等中吸附润滑油的蒸气；并可用作催化剂和催化剂载体和色层分析载体。
