一，天然锰矿砂除铁除锰机理及方法；

1，以所谓滤膜的作用，利用锰砂表面层较强的氧化作用、直接接触氧化过滤去除水中铁。

2，锰矿砂中的二氧化锰与含铁锰水接触后起催化作用，将水中的二价铁催化成三价铁，再把三价铁千周附着在锰砂颗粒表面。

从而起到除铁的目的，天然锰砂中二氧化锰能氧化水中二价铁为三价铁使其沉淀除去，二氧化锰被水中的溶解氧氧化成七价锰的氧化物，七价锰再将水中的二价铁氧化成三价铁使水清净。 

3，铁以Fe2+的状态曾于地下（井）水中，其水有异色异味，污染离子交换树脂而降低交换能力，长时间后生成铁垢，影响传热，能腐蚀设备。而锰砂中的MnO2与Fe2+发生氧化还原反应，使Fe2+变为Fe3+并生成Fe(OH)3沉淀，从而利用锰砂过滤器的反冲洗功能达到去除净化的目的。  

4，用于地下水除铁和除锰的天然锰砂滤料，其锰的形态应以氧化锰为主。含锰量（以MnO2计，下同）不应小于35%的天然锰砂滤料，既可用于地下水除铁，又可用于地下水除锰；含锰量为20%～30%的天然锰砂滤料，只宜用于地下水除铁；含锰量小于20%的锰矿砂则不宜采用。

二，宜优先采用经过科学试验或生产使用证明能获得良好除铁和除锰效果的天然锰砂品种作滤料，切不可盲目选用以免造成经济损失。 

（1），天然锰砂滤料的平均密度一般为3.2g/cm3至3.6g/cm3范围内。

（2），天然锰砂滤料的 可溶率不应大于3.5%。

（3），天然锰砂滤料的破碎率和磨损率之和不应大于3%。  

（4），天然锰砂滤料应不含肉眼可见泥土、页岩和外来碎屑，含泥量不应大于2.5%。

（5），滤料的水浸出液应不含对人体有毒、有害物质。
