球石即球形的石头，分为人工球石和天然球石。人工球石是选用优质硅石为原材料，采用先进的喷雾干燥技术，干式全自动等静压成型工艺，经高温燃油隧道窑烧结而成，产品广泛用于陶瓷企业磨制釉料，磨制坯料，主要做为研磨介质。天然球石即天然的球形鹅卵石，取自经历过千万年前的地壳运动后由古老河床隆起产生的砂石山中，主要化学成分是二氧化硅，其次是少量的氧化铁和微量的锰、铜、铝、镁等元素及化合物。它们本身具有不同的色素，如赤红者为铁，蓝者为铜，紫者为锰，黄色半透明为二氧化硅胶体石髓，翡翠色含绿色矿物等等；由于这些色素离子溶入二氧化硅热液中的种类和含量不同，因而呈现出浓淡、深浅变化万千的色彩，使石头呈现出黑、白、黄、红、墨绿、青灰等色系。
